Matahari pagi masih malu-malu menembus celah dedaunan ketika Ana bangun dari tidurnya. Suara napas pelan dan teratur dari anaknya, Bintang, terdengar jelas di kamar kecil yang mereka tinggali. Ana mengelus lembut kepala Bintang yang kini terbaring lemah di atas kasur tipis. Sudah berminggu-minggu Bintang terlihat semakin lemah dan kurus. Tubuhnya yang dulu ceria dan penuh tawa, kini lebih sering terkulai lemas di pangkuan Ana. “Kenapa, Nak? Kenapa kamu harus merasakan ini?” bisik Ana dengan suara bergetar. Hatinya terasa berat setiap kali memandang anak laki-lakinya itu. Ia tak mampu menahan air matanya lagi. Ana tahu, Bintang mengalami gizi buruk. Namun, sebagai seorang ibu yang bekerja serabutan di kota kecil, Ana tidak memiliki cukup uang untuk memberikan makanan bergizi yang layak. Penghasilan dari bekerja sebagai buruh cuci harian hanya cukup untuk membeli beras dan minyak goreng. Ikan, daging, bahkan sayur-mayur segar terasa seperti barang mewah yang sulit dijangkau.

I’m happy to meet you and spend some time together.” Brother Bear stayed quiet. He wasn’t sure if he liked the idea of someone new coming into their lives. Papa Bear noticed and knelt down next to him. “I know this is hard,” Papa Bear said softly. “We all miss Mama Bear, and nothing will change that. Lady Bear isn’t here to replace her. She’s just here to get to know us and help us feel happy again.” Brother Bear looked at Lady Bear. She seemed kind, but the thought of everything changing still felt strange. “I miss Mama,” he whispered. Lady Bear nodded. “I understand, Brother Bear. It’s okay to miss her. I’m not here to take her place. I just want to be here for you and your family, and maybe, in time, we can be friends.” That night, Lady Bear helped Papa Bear make dinner, and as they sat around the table, Brother Bear found himself talking about his day. It felt different, but not in a bad way. Maybe, just maybe, things could start to feel like a family.
