The Special Gift
Carmencita Y Su Flor
Carmencita was getting ready for her birthday. She was excited because she had a special flower hair clip from her Abuela. Abuela said it used to be hers when she was a little girl in Puerto Rico. Carmencita loved it because it made her feel close to her family and her roots.
1
Carmencita carefully placed the flower clip in her hair. She looked in the mirror and felt like a princess. Her friends were invited to her party, and she hoped they would like her hair clip. But she was also nervous because sometimes they didn't understand her special things.
2
As her friends arrived, Carmencita greeted them with hugs. Tristan, Chicky, and Daniel were the first ones there. Right away, they noticed the big flower clip in her hair. "What's that?" asked Daniel curiously.
3
Carmencita took a deep breath and smiled. "This is my Flor, my flower clip from Puerto Rico," she explained. Chicky tilted her head and asked, "Why do you like it so much?" Carmencita was ready to share her story.
4
She told them how Abuela gave it to her and how it was a part of her family's tradition. "In Puerto Rico, Flor de Maga represents strength ( Fortaleza) beauty and love," Carmencita explained. Eli and Justine listened closely, their eyes wide. Everyone began to see the clip in a new light.
5
Carmencita told them about the festivals in Puerto Rico and how everyone wore flowers. Mrs. T, who was helping with the snacks, nodded and smiled. "It's so beautiful to share where you come from," she said. The kids agreed and were curious to learn more.
6
Noah asked if he could try the clip, everyone giggled. Carmencita laughed and said, "Maybe, but it might not look the same!" Eli and Lilly clapped, enjoying the conversation. Carmencita felt proud that they were interested in her culture.
7
Carmencita wanted to do something special for her friends. She and Abuela had made flower clips for each of them as a surprise. "Let's share our culture with them," Abuela had suggested. Carmencita thought it was a fantastic idea.
8
As the party went on, everyone played games and had cake. Miriam and Lilly admired Carmencita's clip more now that they knew its story. Jayleen and Justine tried to guess how many flowers were made. Everyone was having a great time.
9
Carmencita gathered her friends and handed out the flower clips. They were all surprised and happy. "Now you all have a little part of Puerto Rico too," Carmencita said with a big smile. Everyone cheered and thanked her.
10
As the sun began to set, the party came to an end. Each friend wore their flower clip proudly. Carmencita felt happy knowing she shared something special. Her birthday was more than just a party, it was a celebration of friendship and culture.
11
The next day at school, everyone showed off their flower clips. Teachers and other students admired them too. Carmencita's story spread, and everyone was eager to learn about different cultures. Carmencita hugged Abuela, grateful for her special Flor and all it had brought her.
