Curious Minds

Emma & Nate Learn About Jesus

Emma was five years old and loved to ask questions—big questions, little questions, and questions about everything in between. Her little brother, Nate, was three and followed her everywhere with wide eyes and an even wider imagination. They were best friends and always looking for new things to discover together.
1
One sunny morning, they were playing in their backyard, building castles out of dirt and grass.
2
Emma paused, deep in thought, and looked at Nate. "Nate, do you know who Jesus is?" Nate tilted his head, brushing dirt off his shirt, and said, "No. is He our neighbor who gives us lollipops?".
3
Emma giggled, brushing her hands off on her shorts. "No, silly! Jesus lives in our hearts. Mommy told me. He’s super special! He loves everyone and does amazing things. Let’s go ask her more." They ran inside, their feet pattering across the tile floor.
4
Mommy smiled as they climbed onto her lap, still a little muddy. “Jesus is God’s Son,” she explained gently. “He came to show us how to love others, how to forgive, and how to be a light in the world.”.
5
Emma leaned her head on Mommy’s shoulder, her eyes sparkling. "Even when we don’t share our toys?" "Even then," Mommy nodded. "Jesus loves us no matter what. And when we make a mistake, He helps us try again with a kind heart."
6
Later that afternoon, Nate walked into the kitchen carrying his cup.
7
He tripped slightly and spilled juice all over the floor. “Uh-oh,” he frowned. Emma, hearing the noise, ran in to help. She remembered what Mommy had said and quickly grabbed a towel.
8
"Thanks, Emma," Nate said, hugging her tight. Emma smiled. "That’s what Jesus would do—He helps, forgives, and shows love even in little messes.".
9
At dinner, the family gathered around the table. Daddy asked who wanted to say grace. Nate’s hand shot up. "Thank you, Jesus, for mac and cheese and Emma and my juice cup. Amen!" Emma leaned over and whispered, “Jesus hears everything—even about juice cups and mac and cheese!” Nate giggled and nodded.
10
They both felt warm knowing Jesus cared about every little part of their day.
11
After bath time, with their hair damp and pajamas on, the two snuggled on the couch with their favorite storybook Bible. Mommy read about Jesus feeding a crowd with just five loaves and two fish. “He always made sure people were cared for,” she said. Nate’s eyes grew wide.
12
“Whoa! Jesus was like a super-helper!” Emma nodded, “And He still is. He helps us in our hearts, every day, even if we can’t see Him.”.
13
As the stars twinkled outside their bedroom window, Nate crawled into bed and yawned.
14
“Can we learn more about Jesus tomorrow?” Emma tucked her stuffed bunny beside her pillow and whispered, “Of course.
15
Every day is an adventure when we’re learning about Jesus—because He’s always with us, teaching us to love better.
16
” And with that, the siblings drifted off to sleep—hearts full of wonder, kindness, and just a little bit of mac and cheese. And somewhere in their dreams, Jesus smiled too.
