A New Lesson Begins
Sammie and Nadz learn to take care of their minds
Sammie and Nadz were best friends who loved going to school together. One sunny morning, their teacher, Mr. Lopez, announced a special lesson. "Today, we are going to learn about taking care of our minds," he said with a smile. Sammie and Nadz exchanged curious glances. They had never thought about how to care for their minds before. Mr. Lopez explained that just like we care for our bodies, our minds need care too. The class was excited to learn something new. Sammie and Nadz listened eagerly, ready for this new adventure.
1
Mr. Lopez started by talking about feelings. "Our minds have different feelings, like happiness, sadness, or anger," he explained. Sammie thought about how happy she felt when playing with Nadz. Nadz remembered feeling sad when her pet fish got sick. Mr. Lopez said it was okay to have different feelings. "We can talk about them and share them with friends," he added. Sammie and Nadz realized they could help each other by talking about their feelings.
2
The next thing Mr. Lopez taught was the magic of breathing. "When you're upset, take deep breaths to calm down," he instructed. Sammie and Nadz practiced taking deep breaths together. They found it funny at first but soon felt relaxed. Mr. Lopez said, "Breathing helps our minds feel better." Sammie thought it was like a superpower they could use anytime. Nadz giggled and said, "Let's be breathing superheroes!"

Mr. Lopez took the class outside for a walk. "Nature helps our minds feel peaceful," he told them. Sammie and Nadz loved the fresh air and the sound of birds chirping. They walked hand in hand, feeling happy and calm. Sammie noticed the trees swaying gently in the breeze. Nadz pointed out a butterfly fluttering by. They both agreed that nature was indeed magical.
4
Back in the classroom, Mr. Lopez talked about kindness. "Being kind to others makes our minds feel good," he said. Sammie remembered when Nadz shared her sandwich with her. Nadz recalled when Sammie helped her with her homework. Mr. Lopez asked the class to do one kind act every day. Sammie and Nadz decided to help their classmates whenever they could. They realized that kindness was a wonderful way to care for their minds.
5
Mr. Lopez introduced an art session to the class. "Creating art helps our minds express feelings," he explained. Sammie loved painting rainbows and Nadz enjoyed drawing animals. They spent the afternoon creating colorful art pieces. Mr. Lopez admired their work and said, "Art is a beautiful way to show what's in your heart." Sammie and Nadz felt proud of their creations. They understood how creativity could make their minds happy.
6
Mr. Lopez taught the class about relaxation. "Relaxing helps our minds rest and recharge," he said. Sammie and Nadz learned how to sit quietly and close their eyes. They imagined being on a beach with soft waves. Mr. Lopez played calming music to help them relax. Sammie felt like she was floating on a cloud. Nadz whispered, "This feels so peaceful." They both realized the importance of taking time to relax.
7
Mr. Lopez formed a friendship circle with the class. "Sharing with friends makes our minds feel connected," he explained. Sammie and Nadz sat in the circle, holding hands. Each student shared something special about their week. Sammie talked about her new puppy, and Nadz shared a funny story. The circle made them feel closer to their classmates. Mr. Lopez said, "Friendship is a treasure for our minds." Sammie and Nadz felt grateful for their friendship.
8
Mr. Lopez discussed the importance of sleep. "A good night's sleep helps our minds stay healthy," he said. Sammie and Nadz learned how sleep recharges their brains. They promised to go to bed early and get enough rest. Mr. Lopez shared tips for a good sleep routine. Sammie decided to read a book before bed, and Nadz planned to listen to soft music. They understood how sleep was essential for their well-being.

Mr. Lopez talked about eating healthy. "Nutritious food helps our minds stay strong," he explained. Sammie and Nadz learned about fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. They promised to eat more healthy snacks. Mr. Lopez shared a recipe for a delicious fruit salad. Sammie and Nadz decided to make it together at home. They realized how healthy food could make their minds and bodies happy.
10
Mr. Lopez introduced the class to positive thinking. "Thinking positively helps our minds feel good," he said. Sammie and Nadz learned to focus on happy thoughts. They practiced saying, "I can do it!" whenever they faced challenges. Mr. Lopez encouraged them to write down things they were grateful for. Sammie and Nadz made a list of all the things they loved. They understood how positive thinking could brighten their days.
11
As the lesson came to an end, Mr. Lopez reminded the class, "Taking care of your mind is a lifelong journey." Sammie and Nadz felt excited about everything they had learned. They promised to practice self-care every day. Mr. Lopez smiled, "Remember, you are the heroes of your own minds." Sammie and Nadz felt proud of their new knowledge. They knew they could help each other and their friends too. Their journey of self-care had just begun, and they were ready for it.
