The Balancing Act
Lily was an energetic 8-year-old girl who loved to play outside with her friends. One day, she started feeling very tired and thirsty all the time. Her mom, Ms. Calhoun, took her to see Dr. Garcia. After some tests, Dr. Garcia told Lily that she had diabetes. Lily was a bit scared, but Dr. Garcia and Nurse Rena' promised to help her manage it.

Lily had to learn how to check her blood sugar levels and take her insulin shots. Nurse Rena' showed her how to do it step by step. At first, it seemed hard, but Lily practiced every day. Ms. Calhoun was always by her side, cheering her on. Soon, Lily felt more confident and less scared.

When Lily went back to school, she was worried about what her friends would think. Ms. Calhoun and Nurse Rena' talked to her teacher and classmates about diabetes. They explained that Lily might need to check her blood sugar or eat a snack during class. Lily's friends were very supportive and wanted to help. This made Lily feel much better and more comfortable at school.

But with the help of Ms. Calhoun, Dr. Garcia, and Nurse Rena', she could still do all the things she loved. Lily realized that even with diabetes, she could be happy, healthy, and successful. And that made her feel like a superhero.
