A New Friend in Class

Your New Friend, Stevie

Hi. My name is Stevie. I am so excited to be in kindergarten and make new friends. I have a brother named izaac and a dog, Rupert. I also have something called Autism. I want to teach all my new friends about it!
1
I can’t talk like other kids so I communicate differently with gestures, facial expressions, and sometimes my tablet. Please be patient and understanding when interacting with me.
2
I make different sounds and noises. Sometimes, I might hum or wave my hands when i am happy. These are my special ways of showing my feelings.
3
I love playing with sensory toys and learning in my tablet. Routines are importantly to me and I feel comforted by them. I communicate differently, but I’m just like you in many ways.
4
You can use gestures and visuals to talk to me. It makes me feel included to make sure Stevie felt included. I can understand what you’re saying to me.
5
During recess, please invited me to play with you. I like having fun. Some times I get overstimulated and like to play alone.
6
I know how to show yes and no with my head. And I am learning sign language.
7
Thank you for learning about Autism and how we’re different. Everyone is unique in their own way. of patience and understanding. I’m excited to be your new friend.
